A Safe Crib Mattress
I'm working down my list of purchases for baby #2 and am in search of a healthy and affordable crib mattress. I didn't really pay much attention to my crib mattress purchase the first time around. In fact I think I just chose what a friend had on her registry. This time I'm definitely way too much in the know about smells/chemicals/VOCs that leak from crib mattresses. Information overload. Alas, I am in search of a mattress that I know isn't releasing any of this stuff.
Thus far, I've found a few options: the Pure Rest Apollo 260 which is really out of my price range; the willow natural coconut palm mattress which again is a little pricy; the Colgate Eco Classica I Crib Mattress that folks complain is way too hard; and finally the LA Baby Organic Cotton 2 in 1 Mattress. I love that there are two sides to this mattress and it is affordable but it doesn't tout its natural qualities much and some say the mattress is too soft. Grrr!!
Does anyone have any recommendations?

I have the Eco Classica I for Nate's crib and I really like it! The best part is that it's light, so I can easily change the sheets without a struggle. I have never thought it was too hard (I thought all baby mattresses were hard?) The only thing is that I don't know if it works as a toddler mattress when you convert the crib. I haven't done that yet, so I haven't researched if you are supposed to use the same mattress or change to a different one. Anyhow, Nate never seems to mind his crib at all, so if it doesn't bother him, it doesn't bother me!
I have the LA Baby Organic mattress from Costco and love it. It even comes with an organic mattress cover. I defnitely recommend it.
We have had the Colgate Eco Classica I for 3 years, used by 2 kids, and it's never seemed too hard to us. My daughter was jumping on it just today and it looked pretty squishy :-)
Thanks ladies! This is super helpful. Our current mattress for our daughter is a Colgate and though it is pretty firm, I never thought it too firm so I'm guessing the Eco is probably the same firmness. I had no idea Costco carried LA baby - I think that just sold me! Thanks!!
