Potty Training Boot Camp Day 2 & 3: Get That Poop!

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I woke up this morning but one thing was certain. I was determined to get a poop in the potty. We woke up and had breakfast. I printed out  a new potty chart, set the timer and did our potty freak out when the timer went off. It’s so funny because when the timer goes off my daughter acts like the house is on fire and she needs to get her most valuable items. These include her sleep sack and about five baby dolls. I’m not kidding.

So we make it to the potty. No sooner do I load an iPad app and she is peeing on the potty! I was surprised because she woke up with a pretty wet diaper. I was convinced she was holding it in from the day before.

My hubby was home with me today as it is the weekend so he stepped in to monitor on a few of sessions on the potty. Nice to have a break! We kept doing the timer about every hour or so. The longer it got, the more worried we were that we were going to miss it. We finally got another pee right and in the potty right before her nap.

While my daughter slept, I made cupcakes. I ran to the store to get a few things and left my hubby in charge. By the time I made it back, Elle was up and they just had another success on the potty! Not only that but she woke up with a dry diaper from her nap. Yippee!

After lunch, I put her big girl panties on her and crossed my fingers they wouldn’t mess her up since both Nats said it was better to postpone them. We kept telling her that we still needed to pee and poop in the potty and that we don’t do that in our big girl panties.

She was obsessed with the cupcakes I made. I felt like a torturer saying we only get one when we go pee pee or poo poo on the potty. She had to wait until she needed go - poor thing!

Well the day trekked on and we got braver and braver, stretching out the time. We got two more successful pees on the potty that made a full day of successful pee pees on the potty – I was ecstatic!! So proud of her. We kept her up past her bedtime while we waited for the last pee pee. It was tiring but she was happy as a clam staying up.

I really didn’t know what to expect coming into this whole ordeal and particularly wasn’t sure how she would respond to it but I have to say she has opened my eyes this weekend and has been such a sweetie pie about the whole thing. Melts my heart! Here’s to hoping day #3 is just as good – I still plan to get that darn poop!

Day 3

I went for a morning walk before Tom and Elle woke up. When I just arrived home, they were celebrating a pee pee success! I guess Elle had woke up with a dry diaper. She and Tom were in our bedroom and she started walking toward the bathroom and he asked if she needed to pee and she said yes so he put her on and she went! Woo hoo – I felt that was some form of self initiation. We went to the potty again (pee) before her nap. After her nap she woke up with a dry diaper again and we went pee pee in the potty. Yahoo! I felt like we were on a roll. Now, I just needed to get that darn poop.

Elle was running around playing in the living room and dining room doing circles. I noticed something bulging in her pants on a return from the dining room – darn it! I had missed the poop! Oh well, we’ll keep trying. We had another big milestone that afternoon. We left for our first outing without diapers! Thankfully no accidents. We ended the day accident free except for the poop incident so I’m optimistic we’ll eventually get the poop.

I did struggle over the two days of figuring out how often to put her on the potty and how much to reward her. At some points, my excitement seemed to please her enough and she wasn't asking for a reward. I ended up giving her a treat anyway to keep up with the positive reinforcement.
