Book Review: Curious Critters, by David FitzSimmons

Nic loves books and he loves animals, so when the PR person for a new book called Curious Critters offered to send me a copy of the book, I jumped at the chance. Curious Critters

There’s usually some lag time between one of these offers and the arrival of the goods, which is actually kind of fun, because it’s like getting a surprise present in the mail when it arrives.  When Nic and I tore into the stiff envelope on our porch, we were thrilled with its contents—a stunningly colorful and original book!

The animal picture book isn’t an original concept (Nic’s previous fav was Creature ABC) , but what makes Curious Critters unique are the funny little soliloquies by the animals themselves.  The bat bemoans the flying squirrel’s claim to “flight.” The goldfish talks about his gastronomic preferences.  It’s hysterical.

The other thing that I really like is the collection of life-sized silhouettes near the end of the book.  It’s neat to get an idea of how big, or small, these animals really are.  I’m sure Nic doesn’t understand how big an elephant is, but this book will set him on the right track for sizing opossums and crawfish!

In the video below, you can see how much Nic enjoys the book.
