Bedtime Math

We read with our children before bed, why not practice math with them before bed too? 

As reported by NPR the U.S. ranks 25th out of 34 countries when it comes to kids' math proficiency.   I don’t think this is going to change over night but I do believe that it can change one math problem at a time. 

Laura Overdeck, mother of three and founder of Bedtime Math started a ritual when each of her kids was just two years old. She would create a simple bedtime math problem for each and her kids and this became something they looked forward to. Way to go Laura – getting your kids to love math!

In the interview Laura talks more about how she grew up loving math and worked to create a household where math was fun so much so that her kids looked forward to the math problems each night.

Reading is so important in our household and I want math to be just as important. I want to give Reese the opportunity to fall in love with math so I’ve already signed up on Bedtime Math to receive a daily math problem to share with her.

The cool thing is that for each math scenario Laura creates a math problem specific for preschoolers, little kids and big kids. She also includes the answers.
