Her Name is ...
My husband and I took a long time to decide on a name for our daughter. Between going back and forth on our own and our families’ preferences, we finally decided upon an abbrevi
ated version of family name. The name we settled upon isn’t as simple to grasp as a Jennifer or Natali, even though it is just one syllable.
Recently at a music class, the teacher has started pronouncing her a name that is a form of her name but is a much different vibe than the name we gave her. Think John and Johnnie or David and Dave. We introduced her as the name we would like her to be called so you would think that teacher would call her by that name. I’m guessing this is going to be a constant struggle. Any advice from parents on how to have your children called what you’d like them to be called, at least until they are old enough to have a say?
